Bicyclist killed in collision with garbage truck in Atherton

ATHERTON A bicyclist was killed in a collision with a garbage truck Wednesday morning in Atherton according to agents Related Articles Motorized bicycle rider killed in Hayward crash CHP Pregnant San Jose woman dies after I- crash Two drivers charged in Oakland traffic collision that caused homeless man s death East Bay bicyclist dies after falling into passing driver s path Man who killed California rideshare passengers in crash sentenced to years The crash happened around a m near the intersection of Middlefield Road and Prior Lane the Atherton Police Department stated in a news release The bicyclist was taken to an area hospital where they were pronounced dead a short time later The death marks the city s first traffic fatality of the year An initial review determined the garbage truck was traveling southbound on Middlefield Road and beginning to turn right onto Prior Lane when it hit the bicyclist who was also traveling southbound in the designated bicycle lane police revealed The driver remained at the scene and cooperated with the scrutiny Police reported there is no indication that alcohol or drugs were contributing factors in the collision The Santa Clara County Physiological Examiner-Coroner s Office will release the bicyclist s identity once it is substantiated and their next of kin is notified police revealed Menlo-Atherton High School Principal Karl Losekoot identified the bicyclist as Dylan Taylor a freshman football coach at the campus according to the news site InMenlo His tragic loss will be felt by a large number of he explained in a message to the locality and staff In a message Friday Atherton police Chief Steven McCulley stated officers will be stepping up patrols in the area to bring more attention to bicycle pedestrian and carriage safety On behalf of the entire police department group and the town of Atherton I extend our heartfelt condolences to the family friends and loved ones of the victim McCulley mentioned No words can ease the pain of such a devastating loss but please know that our thoughts are with you during this incredibly arduous time Anyone with information related to the situation can contact the police department at - - Check back for updates
